Supporting people to live independently

Between July and October 2014, Healthwatch North Tyneside met with parent carers whose adult children receive services to help them live as independently as possible. These parents, who represent a wider group of concerned carers, were fighting passionately for the continued provision of an acceptable service for their children, and deeply concerned that new processes – things like how contracts were awarded by the council and how people’s needs were classified – posed the threat of reduced and inconsistent care for their loved ones. In this report, we make public our response, the responses we’ve received from North Tyneside Council, and identify risks that need to be reduced and monitored.
